Compulsory payment of benefit
If you die – we must pay out your benefit to your nominated beneficiaries or, if no beneficiaries have been nominated, to your Estate or eligible dependents as ARIA determines. See Nominating your beneficiaries.
Unclaimed benefit for members aged over 65
If you are over 65 and entitled to a benefit that is not claimed, and we are unable to locate you (or you have died and we cannot locate your personal representative) we must send your benefit to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
Once we have paid your money to the ATO under this legislation, we are released from any further obligations in respect of your benefit and your name will be entered on a register maintained by the ATO for unclaimed money. If you become aware that you name is on this register, you may claim your money directly from the ATO.
